Teaching overview

Learning points

  • The axolotl has the ability to regrow limbs and heal many of its organs.
  • The removal of large areas of forest, often to make space for farmland, is known as deforestation. Deforestation affects native animals severely, as it removes their habitat and food source.
  • Almost all mammals give birth to live young, but the eastern long-beaked echidna does not. The female lays an egg and stores this egg in her pouch until it hatches, then looks after the young echidna in her pouch until it is old enough to leave.
