Sloths are some of the slowest moving mammals in the world.
They spend most of their time hanging about in trees, staying out of sight of other animals that might attack them.
But one species of sloth does things a bit differently!
Meet the pygmy three-toed sloth.

Crazy skill: swimming!

Swimming
Pygmy three-toed sloths live on a remote island off the coast of Panama in central America.
Panama, Central America
They’re very picky eaters, only munching the island’s mangrove leaves.
Mangrove leaves are low in nutrients and don’t give these mammals much energy, so they move around very slowly.
However, because there are no predators on the island, pygmy three-toed sloths don’t need to hide in trees like sloths on the mainland.
Instead they’ve perfected a special skill: swimming!
Swimming allows them to travel between mangrove patches to feed.
They can even float when they want to take a break!
So how crazy is the pygmy three-toed sloth?
It’s a very fussy eater, and it’s a fantastic swimmer!
