Birdwatchers around the world take part in the Great Backyard Bird Count.

This weekend, birdwatchers from all over the United States and the world will take part in the Great Backyard Bird Count—and you can too!

Since 1998, this annual citizen science event has asked participants to pick a spot, like a local park or a backyard, and count the birds they see for at least 15 minutes.

This data gives scientists information about the diversity of birds in different locations, with almost 8000 species spotted in last year’s count.

How will 2025 compare? We’ll have to wait and see when the results are released next month. To join the count, head to birdcount.org for more information!
