The oogpister beetle is a lot bigger than these ants, so catching and eating them is easy.
The ants bravely fight back, by biting the beetle’s legs, but the beetle just kicks them out of the way.
However, kicking only really gets rid of tiny ants.
To protect itself from a bigger animal, like this hungry mongoose, the oogpister beetle has to try another type of self-defence.
It stops running, aims the back end of its body at the mongoose’s face, and then squirts it in the eyes with stinging acid!
Ouch! That’s gotta hurt!
Now, the acid-firing oogpister beetle can escape!
So how crazy is the oogpister beetle?
It kicks ants out of the way, and fires acid at larger attackers.
