Crazy Skill: Fancy Footwork
A fully grown male can weigh up to 650 kilograms – that’s around the same weight as 8 human adults.
So, how does a polar bear that heavy avoid breaking the ice?
Well, it's simple – polar bears are great ice-skaters.
They use their paws to spread out their weight evenly over the surface of the ice.
This allows them to slide across it on their bellies, without falling through –most of the time anyway.
But don’t worry if a polar bear does end up in the water.
Using their big, powerful limbs, polar bears can swim for long periods of time and cover great distances.
Recently a female polar bear swam nonstop for over nine days.
So how crazy are polar bears?
